Briefr
Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 27, 2026
Briefr is designed to be simple and privacy-friendly. We collect only what is strictly necessary to provide the service. We do not sell your data. We do not serve ads.
1. Who We Are
Briefr is operated by Daniel Chinea Delgado, a self-employed individual based in Spain.
For any privacy-related matter, you can contact us at: privacy@getbriefr.app
2. What Data We Collect
2.1 Free users (no account required)
- Usage data stored locally: the number of summaries generated today is stored in your browser's local Chrome storage. This data never leaves your device.
- Article content: when you request a summary, the text of the article you are reading is sent to our backend to generate the summary. This content is not permanently stored by us.
- Summaries: generated summaries are stored in our database (Supabase) linked to an anonymous session identifier, so you can access your history within the extension. No personal information is attached.
2.2 Pro users (paid account)
In addition to the above:
- Email address: collected at the point of purchase via Stripe to identify your account and manage your subscription.
- Payment data: all payment processing is handled by Stripe. Briefr does not store your card details. Stripe's privacy policy applies: stripe.com/privacy.
- Subscription status: stored in our database to determine your access level.
2.3 Shared summaries
If you choose to share a summary using the Share feature, a public page is generated at getbriefr.app/s/[id] containing the summary text and a link to the original article. This page is accessible to anyone with the link. You can stop sharing at any time by deleting the summary from your history.
3. How We Use Your Data
- To generate and display summaries of articles you choose to summarize.
- To enforce usage limits on the free tier.
- To manage your Pro subscription and provide access to Pro features.
- To display your summary history within the extension.
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose other than operating the service.
4. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)
We process your data under the following legal bases:
- Performance of a contract: processing your email and subscription status to provide the Pro service you purchased.
- Legitimate interests: storing anonymous summaries to provide the history feature and prevent abuse of the free tier.
- Consent: for any optional data processing not strictly necessary for the service.
5. Data Retention
- Anonymous summaries are retained for up to 90 days and then automatically deleted.
- Pro account data (email, subscription status) is retained for as long as your account is active and for up to 3 years after cancellation for legal and tax compliance purposes.
- Local browser data (daily usage count) is managed by Chrome and cleared when you uninstall the extension.
6. Third-Party Services
Briefr uses the following third-party services:
7. Your Rights (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Union or European Economic Area, you have the following rights:
- Right of access: request a copy of the data we hold about you.
- Right to rectification: request correction of inaccurate data.
- Right to erasure: request deletion of your data.
- Right to restriction: request that we limit how we use your data.
- Right to data portability: request your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Right to object: object to processing based on legitimate interests.
- Right to lodge a complaint: you may file a complaint with the Spanish Data Protection Authority (AEPD) at aepd.es.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@getbriefr.app. We will respond within 30 days.
8. Data Security
We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls, and row-level security in our database. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.
9. Children
Briefr is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will notify Pro users by email.
Cookie Policy
Last updated: April 27, 2026
Briefr uses a minimal number of cookies and similar technologies. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
1. What Are Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your browser. Similar technologies include local storage and session storage, which work in a comparable way.
2. How Briefr Uses Storage
Chrome Extension (local storage)
The Briefr extension uses Chrome's local storage API — not traditional browser cookies — to store:
- Your daily summary count (to enforce the free tier limit).
- Your language preferences for the interface and summary output.
- Your summary history cache (to avoid re-generating summaries you have already seen).
This data is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to our servers. It is cleared when you uninstall the extension.
getbriefr.app website
The Briefr website uses the following:
- Session cookies (strictly necessary): used to maintain your authenticated session if you log in as a Pro user. These are deleted when you close your browser.
- Preference storage: used to remember your language or display preferences if you have set them.
3. What We Do Not Use
- We do not use advertising cookies.
- We do not use third-party tracking or analytics cookies (e.g., Google Analytics).
- We do not share cookie data with third parties for marketing purposes.
4. Third-Party Cookies
When you complete a purchase, Stripe may set cookies on their payment pages to process transactions securely and prevent fraud. These are governed by Stripe's own cookie policy.
5. Managing Cookies
You can control and delete cookies through your browser settings. Note that disabling strictly necessary cookies may affect the functionality of the Briefr website. Extension local storage can be cleared by uninstalling the Briefr extension from Chrome.
For more information on managing cookies in Chrome: support.google.com/chrome/answer/95647
6. Cookie Consent
As Briefr only uses strictly necessary cookies and local storage required for the service to function, we do not require a cookie consent banner under current EU guidance. If we introduce any optional cookies in the future, we will update this policy and request your consent accordingly.
7. Contact
For any questions about our use of cookies or storage technologies, contact us at privacy@getbriefr.app.
